Authorities on Long Island are monitoring a shark measuring at least 10 feet that was spotted in shallow waters Saturday morning in Suffolk County  Police said the sighting was reported about 9 a.m. near Penniman Creek in Quogue, a small village in the Hamptons — about 80 miles from Manhattan  The Southampton Police Department was trying to monitor the shark with a drone while local constables used boats to follow the animal, authorities said in a statement “At this time we are cautioning swimmers and boaters in the area to be aware of this ongoing situation, and to keep distance to allow the Bay Constables and Law Enforcement to monitor the situation,” the statement reads  The species of the shark was not immediately known. Police said its length appeared between 10 and 12 feet  The popular summer destination is under an excessive heat warning this weekend, so it was not clear how crowded the beach was on Saturday
